It's time to celebrate being an Aussie! Australia Day comes but once a year and we hope you are all (Australians and non-Australians included) embracing the opportunity to flaunt your national pride and rock out in yellow and green. January 26 commemorates the arrival of the First Fleet at Sydney Cove in 1788 and records indicate celebrations date as far back as 1808. We're looking forward to finding out which members of our community here on the Gold Coast will be recognised in this year's Australian of the Year Awards which will be announced this evening. All Gold Coast beaches closed due to weather

Wild, wet, water... a combination of words which spell fun to the team at Jetboat Extreme but when you are talking about an extreme weather event battering the Gold Coast they conjure up a much more serious tone. All beaches on the Gold Coast were closed as a safety precaution early this week as huge swells and winds of up to 100km/h along with possible flooding were all forecast to hit the coast. The team at Jetboat Extreme is thinking of the two people who lost their lives as a result of the storm and urges everyone to stay safe and avoid taking any risks. We will be keeping a close eye on the warnings and forecasts and hoping things settle very soon. Take care out there!

Welcome to a new year. 2012 is getting off to a very busy start here on the Gold Coast, visitors and locals will be spoilt for choice next weekend when three big events get underway. The 20th annual Big Day Out music festival will be held at Parklands from 11 am on January 22 and organisers have an all star line up including Kayne West, Soundgarden and My Chemical Romance. Meanwhile, the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre will be a hive of activity with the Health Harmony Soul Expo and 2012 Food and Wine Expo both being held there from January 20-22. Whether you are interested in finding out about how to live a healthier lifestyle or how to up-skill in the culinary department with tutorials from leading, both of the expos are offering a large number of exhibits so get along and check them out. Once you are done, come down to visit the team at JBX and enjoy some fresh air on one of our exhilarating jetboat trips.
