The 11th annual Blues on Broadbeach Music Festival is set to kick off next week with an impressive line up of talented local, national and international artists lined up to perform. the Festival runs from May 24-27 and will see the Broadbeach area transformed into a musical village offering the best of Blues talent and Gold Coast cuisine. One of Australia's most iconic Blues Festivals, the Blues on Broadbeach is a free non-ticketed event which creates a relaxing atmosphere for all visitors. Why not give your Mum something to remember this Mothers' Day and send her down to Jetboat Extreme for a whirl around the Gold Coast's spectacular waterways. Giving flowers and chocolates year after year is nice but why not think outside the square this year and give Mum an experience - you can always shout her to a nice meal (there are plenty of local cafes and restaurants offering specials for Mum this Sunday) afterwards. Harry Potter stars heading to Gold Coast

Organisers of the 10th annual Gold Coast Film Festival have managed to secure Harry Potter stars James and Oliver Phelps who play Fred and George Weasley in the internationally popular series to attend the festival. Almost six months after Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 hit the big screen, fans on the Gold Coast will get the chance to see an encore screening of the final installment of the series introduced by two of the stars. The film screens at Birch Carroll & Coyle Australia Fair Cinemas in Southport on Saturday 21 April at 8.30pm. Fans are encouraged to dress in Harry Potter costume to celebrate the film and be in with a chance to win a prize for Best Costume. Tickets are $12 and can be bought under the Australia Fair session times at www.eventcinemas.com.au. The Gold Coast Film Festival got underway on April 19 and runs until April 29 - the festival aims to celebrate the local industry and includes a wide range of films screening daily at Birch Carroll and Coyle Australia Fair Cinemas, free outdoor cinema events and seminars and workshops. Check out some of the homegrown talent on show - there's plenty of Australian productions on the programme!

Surfers Paradise is a multisporters dream this month with both the Cooly Classic ocean swimming race and Gold Coast Tri - Luke Harrop Memorial events taking place. The Cooly Classic 750m and 2km swimming races will be held on April 15 (Sunday) and will see competitors swim the Coolangatta, Kirra and Snapper Rocks breaks. The Gold Coast Tri - Luke Harrop Memorial will be held at the Broadwater Parklands on the Gold Coast on April 21 and offers a range of events for athletes of all levels. If you are feeling fit or want a little pre-winter inspiration get along and check them out, who knows you might be tempted to enter an event yourself - the Gold Coast Marathon on June 30 is still within reach! Go hard or go home!

Easter - it's not all about chocolate!

We are on the final countdown to Easter 2012 now and if you haven't already made plans it's not too late. With an abundance of local celebrations to choose from there is plenty to do with family and friends on the Gold Coast this Easter. Two free family friendly events will be staged over the weekend offering residents and visitors the chance to enjoy some entertainment, markets and a visit from the Easter Bunny. A two-day celebration will run over Saturday and Sunday in the Surfers Paradise beachfront precinct offering crowds plenty of free activities and entertainment from 9am until 9pm each day. Meanwhile, Sanctuary Cove's Easter Eggstravaganza free community event on Sunday morning from 10am until noon will include and egg hunt, buggy parade and live entertainment. Sublime is... what we got!

After a long hiatus two of the original members of American punk band Sublime are returning to Australian soil to perform. The highly popular act formed in 1988 sold over 17 million albums with hits including What I got and Doin' Time but disbanded after the death of lead vocalist Bradley Nowell in 1996. Accompanied by singer and guitarist Rome Ramire, original Sublime members Eric Wilson and Bud Gaugh will perform at the Coolangatta Hotel on Marine Parade, Coolangatta on April 4. Tickets (from $69) are expected to sell out so don't miss out.

One of the most iconic events on the Australian Surf Life Saving calendar kicks off on the Gold Coast on Monday (March 26). The Australian Surf Life Saving Championships will be held at the highly popular surf spot Kurrawa Beach, which is known for its big surf and beautiful beach. Held on the doorstep of the bustling Broadbeach dining precinct, the event is guaranteed to provide plenty of entertainment for spectators who can watch competitors battle it out during the week of heart-pumping action both on and off the water. With more than 300 surf life saving events to be held over the week long event, competitors will be put to the ultimate test to determine who is the best in the business. Thousands of residents across Australia's flood-hit east have been forced to evacuate as the El Nino weather pattern continues to slam the country. Residents in various parts of NSW and Queensland are fleeing as the rising waters threaten their homes, businesses and lives. In parts of the country the flooding is unprecedented and has seen many rescue missions launched. Unfortunately, the devastating floods have already claimed the life of a motorist whose vehicle was swept off the road north of Gympie in south-east Queensland. Our thoughts go out to all those affected by the floods. Broadbeach will play host to the Australian Motorcycle Expo this weekend which will showcase all motor sports including everything from motorcycles to jet skis. Kicking off on Friday at the Gold Coast Convention & Exhibition Centre, the expo will run in conjunction with the Australian Scooter Festival and Australian Personal Water Craft Expo. With more than 100 manufacturers and industry exhibitors, all the latest in leisure and commuting craft for land and water will be on show. Daily performances from some of the country's best action sports stars will include the Monster Energy Showtime FMX team, former Crusty and Nitro Circus riders as well as the best freestyle jet ski riders - and World Superbike Champion Troy Bayliss will be about to meet fans too! Tickets are $20 for adults and $14 for children. The expo opens at 10 on Friday February 17. And - if you haven't already - don't forget to check out the talented sand sculptors whipping up their impressive sand creations on Surfers Paradise Beach for the Australian Sand Sculpting Championships until February 19.

Rocking Rod is hitting the Gold Coast this week and there is no reason why you shouldn't too. With a wide ranging line up of events there really is something for everyone. Rod Stewart and Aussie legend Diesel will play live at the Gold Coast Convention Centre tonight (February 9) belting out their respective hits - if you miss them this week they play Brisbane on February 22 at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre. If you are into surfing, why not check out the some of the world's top surfers in action at the Breaka Burleigh Pro ASP 4 Star World Tour Event at The Esplanade, Burleigh Heads from 9am-5pm each day until February 12. Meanwhile, the Australian Sand Sculpting Championships get underway on Saturday on Surfers Paradise Beach providing free entertainment for the whole family. It's time to celebrate being an Aussie! Australia Day comes but once a year and we hope you are all (Australians and non-Australians included) embracing the opportunity to flaunt your national pride and rock out in yellow and green. January 26 commemorates the arrival of the First Fleet at Sydney Cove in 1788 and records indicate celebrations date as far back as 1808. We're looking forward to finding out which members of our community here on the Gold Coast will be recognised in this year's Australian of the Year Awards which will be announced this evening. Summer storms hit Surfers Paradise

Wild, wet, water... a combination of words which spell fun to the team at Jetboat Extreme but when you are talking about an extreme weather event battering the Gold Coast they conjure up a much more serious tone. All beaches on the Gold Coast were closed as a safety precaution early this week as huge swells and winds of up to 100km/h along with possible flooding were all forecast to hit the coast. The team at Jetboat Extreme is thinking of the two people who lost their lives as a result of the storm and urges everyone to stay safe and avoid taking any risks. We will be keeping a close eye on the warnings and forecasts and hoping things settle very soon. Take care out there!

2012 off to a busy start on the coast

Welcome to a new year. 2012 is getting off to a very busy start here on the Gold Coast, visitors and locals will be spoilt for choice next weekend when three big events get underway. The 20th annual Big Day Out music festival will be held at Parklands from 11 am on January 22 and organisers have an all star line up including Kayne West, Soundgarden and My Chemical Romance. Meanwhile, the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre will be a hive of activity with the Health Harmony Soul Expo and 2012 Food and Wine Expo both being held there from January 20-22. Whether you are interested in finding out about how to live a healthier lifestyle or how to up-skill in the culinary department with tutorials from leading, both of the expos are offering a large number of exhibits so get along and check them out. Power, speed and skill to grace the beach this weekend

If you are visiting the Gold Coast this weekend be sure to check out the first round of the Kellogg's Nutrigrain Ironman and Ironwoman Series. Racing gets underway at Surfers Paradise at midday this Sunday (December 18, 2011). The women are up first and will be followed by their male counterparts at 2pm. The 90 minute Enduro race for the men will see competitors ski, swim and board as well as running in between each leg, women race for about half the duration. The series features some of the biggest names in the sport and will put Australia's top Iron men and women to the test as they race to claim some of the $300,000 plus in prize money up for grabs. This weekend sees the region's most talented volleyballers returning to the spectacular Surfers Paradise foreshore for round two of the 2011/12 Queensland Beach Volleyball Series. Wow it's December already! Does anyone else wonder where 2011 went? With summer now officially here and Christmas just around the corner it's time to get organised for the silly season. We are all looking forward to the local festivities and Christmas in Paradise which kicks off on December 9 in Cavill Mall is a great way to get the fun started. Festivities in the Gold Coast's centrally located Cavill Mall continue through until Christmas Eve and there really is something for everyone. Take your little people down to post a letter to Santa in his mailbox, check out Carols by Candlelight from December 15 and don't miss the traditional Christmas pantomime. Local Police are praising the behaviour of school leavers during the first week of Schoolies festivites on the Gold Coast and we are all hoping the good behaviour and fun will continue as older leavers from New South Wales arrive to celebrate their final days in school. Graduates from across Queensland have had their fun in the sun and now it only seems fair to offer leavers from NSW the same exclusive offer as their northern peers. Nova broadcasts live from Jetboat Extreme

Making a live news broadcast from a high-speed jetboat ride throws up a few challenges but Nova FM's Mitch Lewis managed to pull off the stunt when he read the sports news live from the back of a Jetboat Extreme boat ride this month. Mitch offered Nova FM listeners a short disclaimer before he started reading the news saying ''I'm gonna try now but this is very fast already''. Mitch got off to a good start but was distracted momentarily from his broadcast when the driver treated him to a 360 degree spin. It wasn't easy but he got there in the end and delivered the sports news plus a few extras sound effects and expletives - well done Mitch!

After a long day at Seaworld, you'll be ready to relax but the fun needn't go down with the sun, be sure to book in for the highly popular Australian Outback Spectacular dinner and show to top off a perfect day - the kids will love it and we reckon you will too!

Watch the sun come up over the stunning Gold Coast as you soar far above the sprawling city with Hot Air Balloons Gold Coast, a perfectly romantic way to start the day. After that you will be ready for something a little more fast-paced and we have the perfect package which will leave you grinning from ear to ear. Jetboat Extreme will show you the magnificent Gold Coast from the water and then you'll be whisked to the nearby Sheraton Mirage heliport for a sightseeing trip of the area in a helicopter. Coming back down to earth may prove a little difficult but we recommend unwinding with dinner and drinks in one of the fine dining establishments in the nearby Circle on Cavill complex.

Get up and at 'em with an early morning surfing lesson with the good people at Broadbeach Surf School - it's not easy but if you don't succeed you can be sure to have a few laughs trying. Re-fuel with a hearty brunch at one of the cafes in the new High Street Surfer's Paradise complex - while you're there you might as well check out what's on offer in the range of retail outlets. You've done your exercise for the day and now it's time to play - first stop Jetboat Extreme. Once we've taught you a few things and got the blood pumping through your veins again you will be ready to check out the spectacular panormaic views of the Gold Coast from the Skypoint Observatory Deck. Such an action packed day will require a wind down and we suggest you park up at our favourite - The Thaitanium Bar and watch the world go by.

Gold Coast Summer - it's knocking at our doorstep

Wow, what a year! It's hard to believe we were not long welcoming in 2011 (from the Titanium Bar!!) and now we are just a smidgen over 2 months until a brand new year breaks upon us.

We've had a brilliant year and are looking forward to a hot hot summer filled with loads of thrills and spills on the water aboard our mighty machines.
